Highlights
SMUD Summer High School Internships
25 students are awarded paid internships at SMUD where they learn about working for a municipal utility and the electric utility business.
Tours of SMUD Facilities
Each year SMUD provides tours of its electric generation and support facilities and SMUD’s Power Academy to hundreds of middle, high and college students. Tours include information about careers in the municipal electric utility industry.
Career Outreach
SMUD has a cadre of 240 Career Ambassadors we have trained to provide insight into their careers as public municipal employees. Career Ambassadors visit hundreds of schools each year for career days, STEM festivals, etc.
Regional STEM Competitions and Events
SMUD holds an annual solar car race, solar regatta, electricity fair and careers in energy competition to promote renewable energy and efficiency as well as careers in science and technology. Part of those events are about promoting SMUD as a community agency and a great place to work.
