The City of Carpinteria has adopted a Sustainable Community Policy that drives all sustainable planning efforts.  Some efforts that the city has undertaken include upgrading all streetlights and parking lot lighting to LED, installing high efficiency furnaces at the pool, and actively seeking alternative transportation grants to improve pedestrian and bicycle accessibility.
