Helping Struggling Families Afford Health Insurance and Healthy Food for Their Children Webinar
The webinar, held in 2010, was designed to help city leaders improve the health and economic security of local residents impacted by the recession.
As a follow-up to a workshop session held in July at the state municipal league staff workshop in Minneapolis, the webinar looked at best practices and lessons learned by cities and counties that participated in the Institute’s Communities for Healthy Kids program. Through this three-year project, local officials connected families with no- or low-cost health insurance for their children. The webinar also highlighted the Institute’s new Insuring Kids’ Health: Online Resource Center, which provides city leaders from all states with information on how to reach out to families whose children may be eligible for no- and low-cost health insurance. Finally, the webinar focused on ways that state leagues and city officials can reduce childhood hunger by expanding access to federal nutrition programs that have provided a vital safety net benefit for millions of families across the nation.
