A successful summer meal program begins with thoughtful planning and careful management of records and files. To maintain the integrity of the program, it is critical that summer meal sponsor staff and site management are trained and understand the federal and state regulations related to summer nutrition programs. Be sure to check out Food Research and Action Center’s Planning Guide and Calendar.

Below are some resources created by the YMCA of Silicon Valley and San Diego USD that may be helpful in planning your summer meal program. Be sure to also see sample menus provided by summer meal providers and a list of vendors who have been used. We are adding to our library so if you need something specific, let us know and we’ll track it down and add it!
